Event: HPC adoption by the Greek industry. Status and opportunities
December 2nd 2016


Aiming to support HPC adoption by SMEs as well as largercompanies in Greece, GRNET in collaboration with Corallia cluster, organises a half day informational workshop with the following objectives.

Present to SMEs the national HPC facility in terms of technical characteristics, application capabilities and access policy

Present relevant European initiatives and success stories that can stimulate the adoption of HPC technologies by the Greek industry

Present the opportunities for the Greek industry to access the Greek or pan European funding for research purposes.

Discuss with the Greek industrial community their needs in terms of HPC technology (i.e. access, technology transfer, know how exchange) aiming at strengthening the collaboration and adoption of HPC technology by the Greek industry.


How SME can benefit from HPC
TBA Introductory and demonstration event for SMEs. Representatives from the SME and HPC community will showcase successful user stories and applications demonstrating the benefit of HPC for diverse scenarios.

26th Jan 2017 Dedicated event co-hosted with representatives from the Irish national support agencies and industry partners to present case studies and demonstrate the effective adoption of HPC into SMEs.


HPC for SME Collaboration Pull Meeting in Balkans
27.03.2017 As part of the international HORIZON 2020 project “SESAME Net – Supercomputing Expertise for Small and Medium Enterprises” cooperation meeting between HPC centers and SMEs in Balkan region will be held on 27th March 2017 at the Institute of Physics, Belgrade, Serbia.

Ruder Boskovic Institute, Center for Informatics and Computing, as a partner in the project, will meet with representatives of the Institute of Physics Belgrade (Serbia), University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Sciences (Serbia), University of Kragujevac (Serbia), Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje (Macedonia), University of Montenegro (Montenegro) and several SMEs. The aim of the meeting is to establish cooperation between participants and the expansion of SESAME Net network of HPC centers and SMEs in Balkan region.

Benefits of using HPC in the Industry


3rd April  2017 The SESAME–Net Workshop “HPC for SMEs in Bulgaria” will take place on 3 April 2017 at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (IICT-BAS) (Sofia, Acad. G. Bonchev Str., Bl. 25A, seminar room 218 (2nd floor)).

The aim of this workshop is to present the benefits of HPC for Small and Medium Enterprises, including startups. The new „HPC4SME Assessment Tool“, developed within the SESAME NET project will be presented, so that SMEs may assess whether their market position can be improved by using HPC.

The idea of the SESAME-NET project is to establish an inclusive European network of Competence Centres and Organizations joining forces in order to raise SMEs’ awareness on HPC and to demonstrate its features and benefits.

Participation of representatives from SMEs is free of charge but registration is mandatory.

Introduction to High Performance Computing for SMEs


12th May 2017 The Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) is to hold a 1-day course on “Introduction to High Performance Computing for SMEs“, supported by the Horizon 2020 “SESAME Net” project. The course is aimed at companies who are interested in learning about the fundamentals of High Performance Computing (HPC), or supercomputing, that leverages parallel processing to improve performance, scalability and accuracy. The course will consist of a mix of talks by HPC experts, and hands-on practical sessions on a large-scale HPC system to demonstrate key concepts in HPC, including high-end hardware architectures, parallel programming paradigms (e.g. OpenMP, MPI) and performance considerations.
7 events in collaboration with the Galician Government
TBA This is an initiative in which the Galician  goverment will co-fund SME projects taking advantage of numerical simulation and HPC.

In this initiative we will organize 7 workshops under the umbrella of SESAME Net. The events will be organized in cooperation with the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN), IGAPE (public agency for the economic development in Galicia) and CESGA and will consist of raise awareness events which will be followed by training sessions and funding of pilot projects.
