CESGA is a public foundation whose trustees pertain to the Regional Government of Galicia and to the Spanish National Research Council. It was created in 1993 to provide HPC and communications to the research centres and universities. The mission of CESGA is to perform research in computational science, to boost, spread, and provide services of intensive computing and communications to the communities of Galician researchers as well as to those companies or institutions that request them. CESGA has more than 20 years of experience providing high end HPC, HTC, Storage and Network Communications resources and services to a wide community of more than 600 computing users, being one of the leading centers in Spain.

Service Portfolio

CESGA has an extensive experience working with its users on the development, optimization and parallelization of scientific applications, as well as on the development of graphical user interfaces and science gateways for scientific workflows.

Main consultancy services:

  • Development Support to support the development of user software. The service includes help and collaboration with programming in different languages, optimisation of the existing code, graphical user interface for executing scientific applications workflows, as well as assistance with the implementation of solutions that combine different computational technologies.

  • Generation of training courses on demand.

  • Processes modeling.

  • Design and optimization of HPC and Big Data infrastructures for SMEs.

  • SVG Big Data – 38 Nodes with 2 Intel Xeon Processor Haswell E5-2650 v3, 64Gb Ram per node, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 4 Tb storage per node

  • SVG Industry – 12 Nodes with 2 Intel Xeon Processor Haswell E5-2650 v3, 128Gb Ram per node, Gigabit Ethernet and 4 Tb storage per node. 8 of the nodes include an NVIDIA Grid K2 accelerator.

  • Visualization (Accelerators) – NVIDIA Grid K2 Accelerator and 4 Nodes with 2 Intel Xeon Processor Haswell E5-2650 v3, 256Gb Ram per node, Infiniband FDR 10Gb and 1,8 Tb storage per node

Access policies

Free for the Galician Research Community and CSIC. 20% of Finis Terrae II open through Spanish HPC network RES regular calls for research activities. Open to any institution or company for research or innovation activity.

Collaborations with SMEs

Since 2004 CESGA has developed its modelling and simulation capabilities to support SMEs. In 2004, it carried out a survey on the use of CAD and CAE in Galician manufacturing identifying the main barriers to adoption by SMEs. To overcome these barriers it has adopted an open-source approach supported by training. CESGA has participated in several projects such as Cloudpyme or Fortissimo. In conjunction with three SME organisations, it runs a pilot project to test models for the provision of HPC services to industry in Galicia and North Portugal using Cloud technologies and open-source software.
