ICHEC Celebrating the 10th Anniversary

From a small group of six people supported through seed funding from Science Foundation Ireland in 2006, ICHEC has rapidly grown to become an established Centre of International reputation.

In celebration of ICHEC’s 10th Anniversary, a public event had been held at the Royal Irish Academy on Wednesday 30th November, with guest Roberto Viola Director General of DG CONNECT presenting a talk on HPC and Competitiveness in Ireland and Europe.

The event focused on the impact and importance of High Performance Computing for competitiveness in Ireland and across Europe. A keynote speech from Dr. Roberto Viola, Director General of DG CONNECT at the European Commission and a panel of distinguished experts; Marc Carrel-Billiard (Accenture Global Manager), Leo Clancy (Head of Technology, IDA), Mark Parsons (Director of EPCC), Isabella Weger (Deputy Director of Computing, ECMWF), Sarah Bourke (CEO, Skytek), and Prof. Martin Curley of Maynooth University, who chaired an engaging evening of discussion and debate. Irish government representatives, high profiled industry partners, and members of the HPC community in Ireland also attended the event.
